About Eden Phillips

Eden Phillips was born in London and holds a degree in Drama from the University of Manchester. Before taking his degree, he was at one time the youngest head flyman in the West End, working on the stage crew of numerous musicals.
After Manchester, he spent 10 years as an actor in repertory and West End and especially in television, where his many credits included one-off plays at Granada and Yorkshire Television and soaps and series such as Coronation Street, A Family at War, Doctor Who and Castlehaven. He created the role of Peter Potter in BBC’s Potter’s Picture Palace.

In the theatre Eden toured extensively, including making over 1,500 appearances in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, during which time he played Narrator opposite the Pharaoh of Tim Rice, who first inspired him with the idea of writing lyrics.

Switching from acting to publishing, Eden’s first lyrics were for the children’s magazine/audio series Little Story Teller. He has written over 100 songs for children; book and lyrics for Alfie the Musical (music by John Cameron); lyrics and book, with Julian Slade, for Love in a Cold Climate; and lyrics for Charles Miller’s song cycle Remember When. He wrote and co-produced Dorothy Fields Forever, which had a long and successful run at the King’s Head Islington in 2002.

Eden’s most recent musical, The Postman and the Poet, with music by Michael Jeffrey, has been released on a double album by Jay Records and is due for a production in 2024 . It is based on the novel which inspired the movie Il Postino. Eden’s musical written with composer Richard Link, Six Nights in Naples, is currently available to producers, as are Alfie and Dorothy Fields Forever.

Eden lives and works in London, where he is chief executive of the editorial and design services company Edenco Creative.
